Country Cabin

We were asked to design an outside area to accompany two cabins and an outside swimming pool on the boundary of a country estate. The client had requested simple planting that would be draught tolerant but also be in keeping with the surrounding country side.

There was a lot of logistics involved with moving one and a half ton stones from Ronez quarry into the site and finally into their final resting place.

The pond and stream too were an amazing experience with using puddling clay as opposed to traditional plastic or fiberglass liners.

This was an adventurous and wonderful journey with the construction of the garden almost complete!

The dining area was sunken to shelter from the wind and to provide privacy from the surrounding houses on the hillside. A tall fence perimeter was installed to provide further privacy. A row of Carpinus betulus 'Frans Fontaine' was planted to create a further visual barrier. These trees will be tested by the wind and salt but the client was happy to give them a go.
