Angelside Manor
This was a fascinating project which had many challenges with contour changes and pooling on poor compacted soil. We also had challenges of dealing with previous work that had been done to the land around the house in the 1980's. From the initial talks and ideas we worked with the client for a year and a half developing the design you see below. This is a concept and the installation of the garden is underway.
The planting style was similar to Piet Oudolf with natural style prairie planting in big drifts leading from the house outdoors.
We liked the combination of Veronicam virginicum 'Fascination' with the Miscanthus sinensis 'Starlight' and Achillea millefolium that gave the garden a lift of vibrancy and elegance. The client was sure that we keep a large area of the garden lawn, this was to host drink parties and for overflow car parking.
We allowed the lawn to extend through the garden connecting all extremities crafting a sinuous design throughout.
To begin designing the long water feature in front of the house we first took into consideration the old architecture of the house.
From the main doorway and from the prominent windows either side we could draw the proportions out onto the plan. The size and ratio of the feature match into the entrance through the hornbeam hedge.
To replicate a solid marble finish we adopted a steel framework with the liner and covered the outside of the framework with a composite form cladding in a subtle beige marbled effect.
